About Us
Chartered in 1968, Hickory Tree — a 501(c)(3) organization — is an award-winning women's chorus singing four-part a cappella harmony in barbershop style. We're a chapter of Sweet Adelines International. Our 70+ members hail from over 40 communities, Wantage to Toms River and Hackettstown to Staten Island. We make the trip each week for the chance to sing popular music, tender ballads, and novelty tunes in those close harmonies we love. At the same time, we improve our musical skills, socialize with a friendly group of women, and perform throughout northern New Jersey.
Throughout the year, we are booked to perform for various organizations, business groups, senior living facilities, schools, and community events. Each fall we present a full-length original musical show. At MySpace, you can hear Hickory Tree perform two of our most popular numbers, "Believe It Or Not" and "Friend Like Me."
Our director, Carolyn Schmidt, is a 25-plus year veteran of barbershopping, and both a Master Director and Certified Arranger in Sweet Adelines.
Rehearsals & Directions
We rehearse every Wednesday, from 7:30 till 10:15 pm, in an ideal space that we share at the following address:

The rehearsal site is at the back of a large low building in a business/industrial complex. (You will likely see a sign which reads "Spectrum Discovery Center.") Pull into the parking lot and go all the way to the back of the building; you may park anywhere. There is an A&P strip mall right after the complex. So if you see the A&P, you went too far!

How to Join
We welcome women of all ages who love to sing, learn and perform!
Visit us during a regular rehearsal (directions are directly above) and enjoy a sampling of our music. You’ll participate in the physical and vocal warm-ups, and sing along as much as you’re able with our current repertoire of popular songs, ballads and novelty numbers.
Our music is arranged in four voice parts, which accommodate women of all vocal ranges. Unique harmonies and rhythms are a hallmark of our style of a cappella music!
If you're interested, you can begin the audition process with a learning tape or CD and sheet music for take-home practice. It is NOT required that you know how to read music!
