Coaching with Jim Arns
We had an inspirational day of coaching with Jim last Saturday! It was so exciting to work together to tighten chords and choreo and polish our repertoire.

Lyn Ertle, Hickory Tree Chorus tenor, stands a statuesque 5’ ?”, but packed into this small frame is a wealth of talent and grit.
Last night, we had the pleasure of meeting and listening to performances by our 2017 Scholarship winner, Bailey Grey. She is a graduating senior from Livingston (NJ) High School and has been involved with music since she was a child, joining the cast of the Mary Poppins National Tour at age 10.
Bailey has sung in four high school ensembles, has had leading roles in her high school musicals, played cello in the high school orchestra, and performed as a soloist in school cabarets. Bailey is a section leader, and a leader in the high school theater department. She is a member of the Tri--M Music Honor Society and received a National Italian award.
Our installation dinner (where we honor the service of all from our prior year and 'install' the new leadership for next year) was more fun than ever! Cass was a wonderful emcee keeping us guessing and laughing thru a game of 'Know your Management Team.' We acknowledged the service of all the members who work so hard to keep us going and gave awards for special accomplishments last year: Louisa received the 'Golden Sneaker Award' for outstanding performance, Lucille was awarded the 'Treble Clef' for her growth and teamwork within the tenors and leads, Tina received the 'Bass Clef' award for her dedication within the baris and basses and last, but definitely not least, Jeannie was sworn in to the HTC Hall of Fame!
We are thrilled that our newest quartet, Take Note!, will be performing with the Morris Music Men at a fundraiser for the ECLC, a non-profit organization providing an array of services for adults with developmental disabilities in Chatham on Saturday, April 1, from 4 - 6pm. Click here for more info on the event. As we singers say, Break a Lip!!
This winter has been so exciting and productive! Our Free A Cappella Workshop in January attracted more than a dozen participants to sing and learn about us. Carolyn and the MAP team created rehearsals geared to every level.. and we are so thrilled that since then almost half have become new members!
Janene DePalo was having a lot of fun directing high school musicals, but she really wanted to have as much fun as the student stars she directed. So in 2007, she looked around the local musical landscape and found a place to grow with Hickory Tree Chorus. She’s been singing with HTC ever since – with the chorus, in VLQ’s, with Midnight Rhythm and Moonstruck quartets, for three years with the Women’s Harmony Brigade, and almost every gig, big or small, that comes our way!
“Janene has grown so much since she joined HTC, and she’s an incredible team player,” says Hickory Tree Chorus Master Director, Carolyn Schmidt.
A wonderful time was had by all as we sang to our hearts content at the Morristown music and arts festival… In spite of the drizzly weather, passersby stopped by to enjoy our music and even offered marriage proposals to each and every one of us…lol!.. now that makes for a memorable night!
